This is a great story about the birth of the twins, Artemis and Apollo.  The story starts off with an unintended marriage, a jealous wife, and a pregnant Titoness, but the story is really about the journey that Leto goes through to have her children.

Leto and Zeus are husband and wife. Zeus had many other wives, but his most jealous wife was Hera.  Hera didn't like any of Zeus' children that she didn't give birth to, so she told the other islands to not let Leto go on the islands.  After searching island to island, Leto found the floating island of Delos, which was not mainland or a real island, so she gave birth there.  When Hera found out that Leto had found an island, she then told the goddess of childbirth not to let Leto give birth.  Then Leto bribed her with a really long necklace, and Hera was persuaded.  Artemis was born that day, and the next day Apollo was born.  Like most twins they grew up to be similar and nice to each other.  And Hera is still jealous. People gathered to the island of Delos and built temples to honor Leto and her twins.

This is the end of the births of my favorite gods/goddess.  But it is a perfect example of perseverance and what happens when a Hera gets angry.  To find out more about the gods and goddesses go to my other pages.
